Top 5 Tips for Beginner Poker Players

1. YOU SUCK!

Unless you happen to be recarnation of the great Stu Ungar himself, just face it, you are going to suck at poker at first.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't try at all, im 100% sure you can become a winning player aswell. Just stay humble and dont have too big expectations. And thats really what this article is all about, telling you what its going to take.

2. Learn, analyze, be passionate and never stop learning.

There is no easy way to become a winning player. its going to take you endless hours of hard work, playing poker, learning strategy and analyzing your game. Participate in forums, analyze your game with your friends (if you dont have friends who play poker already, by god, GET SOME), read strategy articles and buy poker books.

The day you think you know it all is the day your proggress as a poker player ends.

3. Poker is a game of skill.

In the long run, luck is hardly a factor in poker. Its all about skill. Dont blame the lady luck for your 100k+ hand downswings, analyze your game and figure out what is it that you are doing wrong! Worst thing you can do (and still what most people do) is to post these "all in luck" or "sklansky bucks" stats on forums and cry about how unlucky you are. I guarantee you, no one will give a fuck. If you really push it you might end up getting pity sex from local pub, but thats really the only benefit.

And remember, you are never as good or as bad as your current run in poker shows. So stay humble even when you are on an upswing.

4. Proper bankroll management.

By far the most common mistake among players is poor bankroll management. And this is not even rocket science, its all about math really. Even if you are as good as Phil Ivey, playing with 10 buy in bankroll will end up getting you broke.

If you have anything less than 30 buy ins for your current game level, atleast have the balls to drop down in stakes when you hit major downswing, or prepare to deposit more.

5. Study some more!

Since you already found into this website and miracly ended up reading this article aswell, it means you are on the right track. Now dont give up!
