Castellon freeroll

Postby Naltia on Sat May 09, 2009 10:42 am

I participated in the freeroll made by Everest poker, where first price was 2500$ packet to SPT. Tournament went rather well on my part, and I managed to hang on till there was only 3 players left. I had 5.5k on chips, two others 7k and 10k. Blinds were kinda big, 600 bb and an ante of somesort.

We played few rounds where players were just stealing blinds. Then i got 77 to hand, (who doesnt like the mullets :) when i was at sb. Button raised to 1500, and i decided to go all in. BB folded and button thought for a while and called with 88. My tournament ended there.

Propably needless to say, but this has been bugging me since. I'd like to have opinions to relief me from wondering if i did the right thing or not. This was my tournament where was really a big price at the end.

600 as sb, bb and ante total. Or blinds 300/600? It will change a little bit how much there was in a pot before. But I think it's a good push. Bad luck, 3handed and 77 is a good enough. And you really beat button's range most of the time.

Blinds were 600/300 and ante 25 or maybe 50. So pot was 2.5k or something when i shoved my chips in.

Hey man, i was there at your table too lol, though i busted out pretty early once i reached the final table. Yeah i stayed on to watch and it was brutal how your 77 lost against the 88 i remembered it clearly.

I guess as the short stack it was reasonable to do so. Not many other better hands are going to come by before the blinds start to take a serious toll on you. Just bad luck on your part to run into a dominating hand then.

i guess it's just bad luck. 77 is a made hand and is even a small favourite against the big slick AK. With the high blind structure it's the right play to apply max pressure on the BB, just bad luck he had 88 =)

Your stack was short and you got a mid pocket pair, so no harm shoving. He could be holding AX and you would be leading most of the time.
